COMIC BOOK ABOUT SUICIDE ON REALITY TV ENDS WITH A BANG

PARAMUS, NJ – How far will reality TV go? Imagine a reality television show where contestants “win” by committing suicide.  That is the premise of 7 Days to Fame, a comic book series about people who go on reality TV to commit suicide.  Why? Because they want to become famous, of course.

The final issue of the three-part comic mini series will be released April 26, concluding with a big bang…and a surprise ending.

The first two installments of  7 Days to Fame were greeted with enthusiastic reviews by industry media and fans for its portrayal of two television producers who launch a suicide television program that is distributed over the Internet as “webcasting.”

The After Hours Press series written by former journalist and web designer Buddy Scalera (Deadpool, Wizard World, CBG) hit the stands in November 2005. The story explored why some people will do anything to appear on television, and how surprisingly close we are to seeing an entertainment program with televised suicides.

“People who have been following the series have been eager to see how the story concludes,” says Scalera. “It ends with a big bang.”

In the comic, 7 Days to Fame is the program where people appear on a webcast for six days to discuss their life, loves, education, career, and unfulfilled dreams. And on the seventh day, they kill themselves in the most creative way possible.

The show becomes the next cultural phenomenon. It kicks up a media frenzy of supporters, as well as people who want to pull it off the Internet.

“Reality television is an amazing cultural phenomenon,” says Scalera, a Paramus resident who graduated college with a degree in Mass Media Communications. “Some people will do anything to be on television.”

The art team includes Dennis Budd and Joe Caramagna. Colors are by Marie Stamas and Wilson Ramos. Letters are by Joe Caramagna.

“A lot of people think that a suicide reality show like 7 Days to Fame could really happen,” says Scalera, “and they say they’d probably watch it.”
